Common Questions

Why do I need a Personal Trainer?

If you’re struggling to get the results that you need, or you have no idea where to start, then a Personal Trainer  will cut through the fitness myths (of which there are many) and provide you with a unique training programme and nutrition plan just for you.

The programme designed specifically for you will depend on your medical and training history, genetic potential (somatotype) and your personal goals. There is no such thing a “one size fits all” training solution. What works for one person may have no effect on another, or even worse injure them. There is nothing more frustrating than putting in 100% effort and not getting the results simply because you are not training the right way. Many variables have to be considered and the plan adjusted to ensure success for each individual. You can leave this to a professional and concentrate on putting in the effort

Where would I exercise?

Personal Training is conducted at Unit One Combat Sports & Fitness, Kempson Way, Moreton Hall, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP32 7AR. www.unit1gym.com

What times can I exercise?

We understand that most people work long hours during the day. So we start early and finish late. We regularly start at 6am and finish at 10pm. In fact, no matter what time you want to exercise we are here to help.

How long will my session last?

Each session typically lasts one-hour, although can be just 30-minutes depending on your goals, requirements and frequency that you want to train. No matter what time you have available, we will make every second count.

What would I be doing?

That will depend on your specific goals, exercise history and of course your likes and dislikes. All plans are individual and constantly evolve to ensure that your body keeps responding and giving you results.

Your exercise programme may include:

  • Natural bodyweight exercises
  • Free weight exercises using dumbbells & barbells etc
  • Medicine ball training
  • Powerbag training
  • Tornado ball training
  • Thai Kick Boxing padwork
  • Kettlebell training
  • Suspension training
  • Stability ball training
  • Resistance band exercises
  • Tractor tyre flipping etc
  • Skedge hammer training
  • Speed and agility drills
  • Interval sprints
  • Stretching and flexability exercises and assisted stretches

Unless you are training for a distance running event you WON’T be running endlessly around the park!

What results will I achieve?

This very much depends on each individual but if fat loss is your goal then expect to typically lose 2 to 3kg (approx 5 to 7lbs) of fat in the first month. Note that this will be purely fat, not water or muscle. It’s important to preserve muscle mass to prevent your metabolic rate slowing and causing you to put fat back on again easily. The objective is for you to lose only fat (not just weight) and keep that fat off, rather than piling it back on again.

If increased muscle mass is your goal, then expect to typically add 1kg of muscle (not fat) each month.

More specific objectives will be discussed during your free client assessment.

How much does it cost?

Personal Training costs a maximum of £35 per hour session or £20 per 30-minute session.

How many times a week will I need to see you and how many sessions will I need in total?

Ideally we’d see you at least once a week to ensure your progress is maintained. However, once a fortnight or even once a month can work for clients with a lot of self motivation and access to a gym or training equipment.

The training frequency and total number of sessions will largely depend on your goals, current level of fitness and personal circumstances. We can give you an accurate idea at the complimentary client assessment.

The frequency of your Personal Trainer sessions can also reduce if you are able to maintain motivation yourself. We simply will check in for assessments and provide updates for your training programme and nutrition plan.

The objective is also to educate you to incorporate fitness into your lifestyle, then you can take care of yourself! We will simply be there to keep things exciting and pass on the benefit of the very latest in effective training methodology.

What do I need to bring?

All you need to bring to sessions are a drink of water, a towel, some appropriate clothing and some comfortable, supportive trainers.

I know how to train myself, but I’m confused about nutrition. Can you help me?

Absolutely. Some clients like to have their own fitness regimes and do it at their own pace. Sometimes we write training programmes and then allow the client to get on with it by themselves, and other times we advise solely on nutrition.

Nutrition can be a tricky subject and we understand that clients want us to cut through the confusion and deliver practical advice based around their lifestyles and circumstances. Our “regular clients” receive constant nutritional advice and support as part of the service.
